FindATalk
Last updated October 4, 2026
FindATalk is a General Conference talk picker. This page explains, plainly, what the app does and doesn't do with your information.
You can use FindATalk fully without an account, and in that case nothing about your usage ever leaves your device. If you choose to sign in (with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and password), your account lets your data sync between your devices and lets you use shared lists. Signing in is never required to find, read, or favorite a talk.
Your Favorites, Recently Viewed list, read marks, notes, lists, reading streak, badges, settings, and a cached copy of the talk database are saved in your device's local app storage. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data erases this local copy.
When you are signed in, the following is kept in the cloud, tied to your account, so it can follow you across devices: your sign-in details (your email address and, if you provide one, your name, as supplied by Google, Apple, or you), your Favorites, read marks and reading history, notes, lists, and streak and study days. This data is stored with Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore). It is used only to run the app for you; it is not sold, used for advertising, or shared with anyone for their own purposes.
If you use a password, we never see it in readable form; it is handled by Firebase Authentication.
Shared lists are optional and require you to be signed in. When you share a list, the talks on it, who added each talk, and the display name you choose are visible to everyone who is a member of that list. Anyone with the invite link can join the list, so only send the link to people you want to share with. Your notes, read marks, favorites outside the list, and streak stay private and are not shown to list members. Members can leave a list at any time, and the person who created it can remove members.
FindATalk is free, and donations are optional. In the iPhone and Android apps, tips are processed entirely by Apple or Google; we receive confirmation that a tip went through, not your payment details. On the website, donations are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number. If you are signed in, we keep a record of the donation (amount and year) on your account so the app can show a thank-you badge.
Signed-in users can permanently delete their account from within the app (Settings → Delete My Account; full steps here). This removes the account and the data synced to it from our servers and clears this device. If you would rather not use an account at all, nothing is stored on our side. You can also email us (below) with any request about your data.
On launch, the app loads a static, public JSON file containing the General Conference talk catalog (titles, speakers, dates, and links) from this site, to pick up new conferences over time. This request does not include any information about you, and the file itself contains no personal data.
The app does not use any analytics SDK, advertising SDK, crash reporter, or third-party tracking of any kind. We don't track how you use the app beyond the account data described above, and only if you sign in.
If you use the Share button, the app hands the talk's title and link (or a list's talks) to your device's native share sheet — the same one every app uses. What happens after that is between you and whichever app or contact you choose; FindATalk itself doesn't send anything.
If you export your data as a backup file, that file is created and saved by you, to a location you choose (or your device's own OS-level backup, e.g. iCloud or Android backup). We don't receive a copy.
FindATalk is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because accounts are optional, a child can use the app without providing any.
If this policy changes, the update will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date above.
